BIRDS: Keep on trockin’

Here I am at midnight! I just finished reading a book in bed. I’m not sure reading’s good for me; It leaves me restless and sometimes I refuse to sleep so that I can get further. Sometimes I put down my book and wander off and sulk because it’s getting to part I’m not comfortable with…

So that’s what happened today! And it took me to Hucknall to meet Ms P. Thrifty, a thread hanger and (ex?) blogger. This reminded me I have yet to blog, as if the thought of updating had done anything but hang over my head.

FIRSTLY thank you to Dee for calling my home tonight and talking to my mother (who thought I was sleeping) to let me know I’d left my phone at her home. Because of this I give her a pic of me in (kinda) drag:

A day of Trockadero! Beautiful, hilarious and addictive! I’ve asked for the first and second dvd for my birthday!

Moving on! Look at these eggs that class mate Lynn gave to me in exchange for cakes for the class:

The darker eggs were actually a mahogany shade of dark brown with black speckles but my camera loves to change the colour of any items that show a hint of red. One parent actually thought that I’d painted the eggs in class! I know we aren’t always very grown up to do a class of messy creativity and cake eating but we don’t paint eggs!

Class mates enjoyed these extra fruity cakes so much that I wonder if these may be an intrinsic too to taking over the world!

Cake 2: Mum’splainer fruit cake for her to take to friends for her birthday

Cake 3:
Date and walnut cake with coffee frost filling to stick the two layers together and plain icing/ coffee heart and sprinkles for the top (so there isnt tooooo much icing!).

Okay, so it’s 12:46am now so I’m goin to go to bed! Hopefully, after dog walking tomorrow I can update some more =)

Next you can expect pics of my white and cream postcards made for lynns book and photos and an idea of what I’m working on next!

Rocky Road to Birthdays

I feel sick. Ate too much “raw” rocky road with mum. *flops*

It’s dad’s birthday tomorrow and he sings with a group called SoundSwell and tomorrow night, Ol’ Brown Eyes will be doing a solo of “Luck Be A Lady”. Each concert he does with this group, the entry is FREE an there’s FREE FOOD, however, it’s for charity and at the end of the show they say who/what they’re raising money for and send a collection plate around the audience.

SO, later, shall I write a rough recipe of the dentally illegal substance I’ve just made? I made a rocky road that’s suitable and terrible for kids, BUT, before that, I made a rocky road that’s suitable but terrible for adults. MWHAHHAHAAH! Dentists everywhere will CRY!

Dad doesn’t know I’m doing this… I’m sure he knows that I have a blog and I’m not sure what he will say if/when he reads this but… here’s my dad:

SO Happy Birthday to Dad for tomorrow!

Also, remember that superb woman I keep mentioning? Dee? Well, I can’t remember if I’ve already mentioned but she recently started a blog! Pretty Thrifty. PLUS she’s pretty new to the tintanet world! Phew, the things to learn!

Right, I haven’t actually eaten real food today, just a melty spoon of rocky road, and I DID put a pepper in the oven to eat with yesterday’s vegetables and quorn strips. YUM.

Rules for making cup cakes

My mother goes to these friendship groups. One called “Nutall Pheonix Friendship Group” (run by an often cold, mean woman) and the other called “Chronic Pain Group”.  My friend Sarah has issues with the name “Pain Group” =P

Mais oui, when it’s someones birthday they take cakes to hand out the rest of the group. So! I make these cakes for her to take, because I like baking and because it hurts her to stand up for so long.

ROOLZ I should follow:

-If you usually do double the recipe- to feed TWO friendship groups… re-read the measurements… else you might make FOUR times the usual recipe.

-Check whether “All Purpose Flour” means that it is Plain Flour or Self-Raising Flour. Unless you want to feel the worry and rush while HOPING like hell that the cakes rise.

-Putting cake cases in a yorkshire pudding tin will help the cases stay round. If you accidentally make four times the mix and have to use other trays, putting paper cake cases in to a christmas themed cake tin will NOT help the cakes stay round.

ROOL i DO follow:
Have fun with it! It isn’t That much of a science.
Yellow are apple and cinnamon.
Pink are vanilla.
Blue are apple.

AGAIN! The dogs were very helpful!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMMY RICHARDSON! (brownie mug cake recipe)

Today was mum’s birthday and mum and dad’s anniversary!

So, I woke at half 9am, ran downstairs, let out the dogs, and… got to making a brownie mug cake for mum and dad!

RIGHT! This recipe is for one chocolate mug cake… apparently… but I mixed the goop in a breakfast bowl and then poured half in to two separate mugs, I suggest you do the same!

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional), 2 table spoons of chocolate chips and two table spoons of chopped walnuts
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again

my monkeys were being terribly helpful! by… um… keeping themselves busy…

NEXT!:  Split the mix in to two mugs so that each mug is just below half way “filled”. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.  Your cakes will rise by double!


In the picture at the top of this entry the cake looks SO very shiny… because I added chocolate frosting!!!

So, to mum’s room I went, with a SPOON and we ate half of one mug cake each and left the other downstairs to greet dad as he came home from work! …First time I’ve ever had brownie or cake for breakfast….

Bah humbug

Right, now I’m feeling bleh, blue, poo and schmoo!

I had a bit of a cry earlier.

Before that I was buzzing because my nervous energy returned.

Before THAT I was hip shaking, belting out songs and giggling along to a Judy Garland (live) CD while baking biscuits (for no other reason than to avoid work and give myself more to do).

*sigh* But NOW I even feel blue that Light Night is tonight, that the fayre’s tomorrow and that I’m going to a Dave Gorman comedy gig after that. Though yesterday all I saw was Sunshine, Icy Breezes and Glittering Water. Now I just feel like sleeping for three weeks or drinking rum til I throw up or carving in to my skin until blood runs down my arm and in to a plug hole. Welcome to the world of depression ladies and gentlemen. Eugh, take be back to yesterday please? Where I felt good? Where the counsellor made me see that “Depression isn’t a sickness, it isn’t cured by pills and counselling.” and that was okay because, “You’re doing brilliantly to know and understand yourself better and to know how to manage it” and ending on, “I can feel how happy you are right now and you joyful anticipation of the next few days- it’s contagious!” *sigh* Can I go back to then please? I can’t. Can I? No. I’ll just make some jewellery, stay away from my arms, shower, play my music on the tram when I go to Light Night and carry on. Sunday I can rest. Hide in warm blankets until Monday. Monday at Arts on Prescription we’re doing Silk Painting =) that makes me feel a tiny bit lighter. But yes. Cant let this sad (or “blue”) nervous energy make me break myself.

Mais oui, today I will (hopefully):

-Make some hearts and paisley pendants

– Make peanut butter cookies

– Price and prepare my new things for the craft fayre tomorrow:


– Charge my camera’s battery and upload yesterday’s pictures

– Do a blog entry for yesterday (It’s called, *atchoo!* Day out with Alyn & Morag)

– Shower, dress in warm clothes and go to Light Night in Nottingham! (Click on Light Night to see the story! Don’t worry, my links open in a new window.)

– Then to come home and make/pack food and drinks for tomorrow!

-Then? Collapse in a heap on my bed… until bright and early tomorrow morning!

On Sunday (Valentines Day) expect a recipe for Peanut butter cookies and other foodie tips AND pics of what sparkly things I made today! OOH! AND of LIGHT NIGHT!

Okay, so my pictures of the night may not show it to be a fantastic, amazing beautiful night but it IS! And it seems that most people stumbled upon it last year, possibly this year too, but it should be advertised better and people should seek it out- various places in Nottingham are doing great things and putting on theatrical processions and doing fantastical story telling, some will be ghostly and some will be historical, but definitely all events to see (if only you could be in two or three places at once!) and absolutely something I’m VERY excited about!

Folksy {Forgive me father for I have sinned…}

Forgive me father for I have sinned, I did it once before and I’ll do it again… (Alkaline Trio lyrics, i think, that or I made it up…)


I have this problem with listing things. I have 6 or 7 Michael Ball programmes on my bookshelf (Oi! Mum bought them, NOT me!) that my parents once asked me to list on ebay a year or two ago. I have a small “Goth Box” at the top of my wardrobe over-spilling with fluffy purple boot muffs, pinstripe corset tie made by my brother’s crazy ex and a satin skirt bought for £60 from void… ALL waiting to go on ebay!

Also I have lots of bobs and bits I’ve made that NEED listing on Folksy.

Sooo, I was watching Big Bang Theory on 4OD while cropping pictures and listing things on Folksy… “Colour me impressed” Dee said via text. Then my sister Michaela called asking me to take her to our leader (Mother) and off I wondered… downstairs… and I can’t blame downstairs NOR my sister or the telephone, it’s ME letting myself get distracted again!

What had I been doing for the past hour from half 5 to half 6pm? I chopped up a butternut squash that has sat, waiting to be used for WEEKS. Googled “roast butter nut squash”. Read a few recipes and then wandered off to the kitchen to invent three flavours of roast squash and it is YUM but smells (for some reason) like sausages.
Squash: is coated in oil, butter (two things that occurred in each internet recipe), then one-third I made mexican-y, one-third chinese and one-third rosemary and garlic, then, for good measure, I added some sliced onion and a couple of apples. YUMYUMYUM

Notice mum’s hand in the picture? She dislikes clutter in photos. But if I were to “After” shot; in which the cling film had been moved, you would then see our toaster on a tray scattered with crumbs! Ewwww!

Also- please no one tell my mother that I wrote that? I’ll be homeless if I dare leak out secrets of the house hold!

SO! Moral of the story; DON’T PROCRASTINATE!

On here I will write a TO DO LIST and then, to prove that I have carried out the tasks listed I will take a picture of the completed task or a screen shot of said task!

To Do…. No, Really!
– Load new items to Folksy:

~Big brooches Done! See!?
~Little Brooches
~Miscellaneous brooches
~ Greetings cards
– Put Michael Ball Concert Programmes on Ebay
– Write blog address on remaining business cards
– Design and order more business cards
– Physically price new items for Saturday’s craft fayre so that I might hopefully…
– Go to the ball *cough cough* I mean “Nottingham Lights Night”
– Organise bag for Saturday Fayre
– Make peanut butter cookies?
– Make wire hearts/ paisley?
– Photograph, measure and write descriptions for goth clothes, listn THOSE on ebay TOO!
*flops*

hmm, what else might there be? Golly gosh! Not sure I’m liking this to do list idea any more!

“best ever chocolate cake… just so happens to be vegan”

Choc at the back and vegan choconana at the front. Honestly the vegan one tastes nicer
and more chocolatey.

It is my brother’s birthday tomorrow!
AND I made a cake for the making day at Dee’s yesterday, it was Vegan Choconana


Here’s the Recipe:

1 and 1/4 cups of flour
1 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of cocoa
1tsp of baking soda
1/2tsp of salt
1 cup of warm water
1tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup of vegetable oil
1tsp of apple vinegar
3 chopped and sliced ripe bananas

Method:

Pre-heat the oven to 350F OR 180C

The only rule to cakes is to mix the dry ingredients first and to add and mix the wet ingredients secondly!

Line and or grease the cake tin (with oil if you’re vegan). Or go to B&M Bargains to get a load of silicone cases. Nifty things!

Bake for 30 minutes. Prick its centre with a knife, if it comes out clean then it has keweked nicely =) He it is with icing:


When it’s cooled you could make a glaze using a warm  pan- melt 4tsp of vegan marge and add 1/2 cup of sugar, 2tsp milk and 2 tsp cocoa.



For Stefan (my big bro) I made a chocolate sandwich cake.


Recipe:

6oz S R Flour
2oz Cocoa
8oz Sugar
8oz Margarine
4 eggs

Which I also cooked at 180c for 35-40 mins

When it had cooled I sandwiched the cake together using chocolate frosting (2 or tablespoons of melted marge, little bit of milk, lots of cocoa and icing sugar) and strawberry + red currant jam…

… Teffybum likes sugar and sweetie things….


SO! *sigh* Lastly (in real life- it was the first cake I made that night) Fred’s birthday was earlier this week and for this group of friends and himself I made a Victoria Sponge cake which is four and eight:


8oz of flour, butter and marg’ and 4 eggs.

Again I sandwiched it with jam and vanilla butter icing (leave out the cocoa, add a tsp of vanilla escence)


Sooooooooooooo, I have this friend- no, really! I do! And her name’s Marie, she’s a photographer which and amazing eye! From her I bought a birthday for my brother. It took a while and I had to go through a process of selections until I narrowed it down to two catagories of “Card/ photograph brother will like the most and will want to frame  and mount on the wall” and “Photograph I like the most right now and want to frame and mount on my wall”

The fallen angel is his and much like the pictures Stefan used to take and the rose is mine =P because I like flowers, dew drops and the genius of  macro setting on cameras. To prove this, here’s a picture of some freaky fabric that Dee was printing on to (se the pretty swirls?). They’re just water droplets but they didn’t properly settle or absorb and looked glittery in the light.


OOH! And our work endorsed by Nonie!
