Bonjour, desole!

leave a comment »

I’ve been a busy makererer, crafting candy canes, beaded bauballs and stars for chirstmas earrings and paper brooches for various places for christmas! First place stocked was  The Hopkinson Gallery, tomorrow I’ll do Crocus Gallery in Lenton (near the Savoy Cinema), hopefully in the weekend I’ll get to a friend’s shop in Hucknall (of which 25% of profits will go to charity!)

Lately I havent even had time to Art Journal *shock horror!*

last bit of art journalling I did!

…and yet… last thing I did in art journalling:

*stimpy*stampy*stompy*heat embossing, sticky tape and glitter!*

But I have some Art Journal background drying right nowwww in my big sketch book!

But at the weekend where did I go!?
Well, Saturday I went to Crocus with Magsy Malone

Too meet and catch-up with Alyn

That evening there was Floodit…

…but at home help was needed so I wasn’t able to attend even though I wanted these two designs:

However! Magsy Malone to the rescue!! We ran off to Dotty Perkins, bought a couple of plain tees (ultra stylish for Sarah, mega normal for me!) and off she went to Floodit with our friend Maty and got our tees screen printed! Ain’t she lovely! So sarah has the doggy printed on to her tee and I have a doggy tee and a “life is wonderful” tee! Well ‘cited to see them- ahem, and Magsy Malone of course!

And on Sunday, amidst me nervously beading like a lunatic, my friend’s baby’s naming ceremony! Um, his name?

…Dylan Jack Goatcher! I made this for him and one for each of my grand-nieces Katie and Sarah-May. They get theirs in their christmas sacks- you know you’re an adult when, on holiday in October, you’re sewing kid’s christmas gifts in your spare time.

I’ll try to update sooner next time!

Productive day! / About me

leave a comment »

This song makes me happy, bouncy and sing in american!

After a few days of moping and feeling down I had an ultra productive day yesterday! Facebook:

“Didn’t mope today =D walked dogs, did beading, make a fajita for me and curry for parents (three pans, two hobs? tricky), made bed, uploaded photos. GOOD DAY!”

AND I bought some rainbow crayons- I used to find them here and there in childhood days and so I bought a box of five from ebay! One for me, one to send to my friend Lucy on the Isle of Man (she’s never heard of them!) one for each of my grand nieces (not for the grand-nephew, he can’t even hold his head up yet!) and one spare =)

not my picture crayon is muuuuch smaller.

After my three hours walk on the “ranges” (I call it the embankment) with the dogs and pictures taken of the Lord Byron sculpture up there and pictures of the butterflies and bugs, I then identified them using a website (yes I’m a moth /butterfly nerd) which I’ll try to find and share on here soon.

Lucy told me the one on the left is a six-spotted burnet, I found out that the one on the other side is a Cinnabar Moth!

THIS is a Cinnabar Caterpillar! I love them. They feel lovely to stroke. I saw possibly a hundred of these moths as they really love the meadow flowers, but only saw one patercillar! Odd? Not sure. Saw an old chrysalis too!!! First time finding one outside of a butterfly farm.

Also while we were out we saw a butterfly called a “common blue” (google him) he was  as violet/lilac coloured as the flowers the moths are sitting on above and possibly not as common as the say because this was the first time I remembered seeing him!

Here’s the great user of puns, reader of magazines, watcher of telly soaps and perferred cushion to dogs *drum roll…* mum of the house and mamma/great grandma:

She (understandably) had to sit for a lot of the walk and the monkey dogs and I would go back to her before moving on to the next section of embankment. So there she is in the butterfly meadow and then here she is trying to walk Boatswain:

Boatswain is the sculpture of Lord Byron’s dog. Here’s the whole sculpture:

The monkey dogs were very excited about this and spent time running around and yapping to someone or other… either to us or the sculpture…

SOOooooooOOooooooooooOOOOOooooooo…

a bit more about me me me and family… told by circular plaques at the base of the Byron sculpture….

As a baby I was christened here:

and my mum’s dad worked here:

Mum and the dogs were becoming increasingly knackered (sorry!) but before we could go home we stopped to let some Lean Mills school kiddies (hiiiiiiiiiiiii!) play with play with the monkey dogs!

Also, at home I made curry for the first time EVER and it was yummmmmy! I’m sure I didn’t make ‘true’ curry- I didn’t add salt and there wasnt much oil used. And we always add apple, sultanas, carrots and celery to ours… but it was curry flavoured! Num num num.

And what can I say about today so dar that will fit in a Facebook Status?

“Counselling was brill today! Dad singing tonight, the group will all be wearing african colours, singing african songs and raising money for charity!”

That’s all for now! Ta ta!

FIRST 1st Fri’ Crafts…

leave a comment »

First 1st Friday Crafts in an a while at Dee’s house and we diddddd sewing! we were going to do paper making but feared it would wash away drown the drains when we pegged it out to dry in between the clouds mood swings…

sunshine… rain… sunshine… rain… sunshine… rain… sunshine… JUST STOP!

are the clouds playing peek a boo with us?

ahem, so, anyway… I VERY much want to take part in an eco garments course that Dee justtt finished but get easily scared by the growling sounds my sewing machine likes to make when I get too near.  Dee’s mission? To get me on track, much less clueless and a lot more confident using a sewing machine.

Yesterday she set me on doing zig zaggy lines! Her machine has speeds between “tortoise” and “hare”… I started on tortoise and half way through the day I was on the hare speed!! Woop!
Oops, i left a practice sheet at her house! But my second practice sheet I  turned in to a little phone holder.  Dee meanwhile was clickey clattereing away on her laptop, uploading and labelling pictures. When I showed Dee my phone holder creation she showed me how to machine a chord to attach to the case and then strapped me to the chair until I had completed the project and had hand sewn the phone case to my own skin… possibly because I have problems with loosing my phone… quite often…

HERE IT IS!

I call him Ziggeh (the Nottingham translation of Ziggy)

PEEK A BOO to  my troublesome phone!

The zig zags were (at first) me trying to keep my lines from going wonky, but after being taught how to change the bobbin and what different thinkness threads would do (and many other tricks) I just went a bit happy with the colours… I WARNED that I love orange and purple together! Plus this orange thread is a bit magic and looks pink and coral next to other threads. *swoooooooon colour*

Can YOU see a big nose, long chin, ear and eye?

and… um… fings of late:

  • 89 6 lip balms. yes. i’m an addict. (4 of which are from BalmBox on Etsy.com, one’s rose scented and free with Psychology magazine and one was from I.C.Discounts- Lip Smackers are goood and not tested on animals)
  • Triangle and star shape buttons from a shopping trip with Dee and Pauline (plus a wrotten note to meet her at Cape on 26th of Aug for the launch of the patchwork quilt)
  • A beaded flower in blue, white and silver (made by me!)
  • A flower taken from an old broken  ring that I’m turning in to… something else!

Today I was supposed to do a market wity my friend Rosey but it was cancelled for all the rain so today has been very lazy! So far I’ve:

  • Eaten cereal (Special K with peachy bits!)
  • Watched “the Untold Battle of Britian” that I taped t’other night- focused on the Poles involvement and all they did to help. Sad ending though.
  • Played inthe garden with the dogs.
  • Recieved a very annoying Very.com catalogue through the kitchen window while I was washing up peoples pots. Recieving post through the kitchen window was such a novelty that I forgot  to tell the man that I HATE catalogues. So I might turn it in to some paper beads =P
  • Have endured neighbour’s loud thumping party music for hours and hours…
  • Unpacked shopping.

that’s all i’ve done today and it’s nearly 5pm! hmm, off to be productive like the good creative, sleepy person I am.

WELL! I had a couple of days with the Pretty and Thirfty Dee! Read about it here. Yup yup, great time cackling and laughing with my Queens of magical creativity! and DAMN that was good hot chocolate! Also, I have this little piece of lapis lazuli….

Beautiful! and with golden flecks

from the nice man Mick Lawlor at the crystal shop on Canning Circus. Luminosa? WHEN I know how to make silver jewelery with silversmithery techniques I will buy FUCK LOADS LOTS of such stones and other pretty things and set them how they deserve to be displayed *sigh* one day…

Here’s another blue stone I love (but a cheeky man-made stone)

It has me thinking of starry nights, the universe and icey pavements.

SooooooooooooOOoooooOOOOOooooooooOOOOoooooo….

What might I have been up to recently?

MaKiNg PeNdAnTs! & Sitting with flowers & taking pictures!

Orange with blue and orange with puple makes my eyes happy and my heart swoon…

SO! What else…

leave a comment »

have I been up to? Let’s get this update outta the way so we can get on to more recent doo dahs =)

Off I go to visit my Facebook photo albums to show you pretty pics!  Yesssss, I’m a picture nerd.

after holiday times i met Alyn and we visited the Luminarium at its visit to Lakeside Arts Theatre…. just for the record I also invited a friend and her 9-year-old son but our inner children was all we needed =)

LOOK! there are three teens’ early twenties people without kids!

….completely alright to go to a children event without kids…..

and here’s inside! DEFFO worth 3 pounds!

*swooooooon*

also, the shape… it made my head and belly feel funny that there’s no ‘separation’ from floor to wall, so my head didn’t know where one started and the other began… or something like that….

Spot the oddly coloured Alyn?

Remember the squiddy bit at the start? That’s how the did this…

in the main dome people would lie on the floor or up against the ‘walls’.

I kinda love this woman and her baby. They were having a nice time and lounging =)

and I love this duo!

Sooo, that was the luminarium? and what are they looking at really?

check out these panels and pieces! it was put together by hand and each section zips together!

these few pictures were taken with flash =) so this is what we look at, and walked through, but it isn’t at all what we saw =)

and this is the squid dome room, with flash:

i love this! the guide at the start said to not use flash but I’m glad I did, just to see this =P

i thought the luminarium would have inflatable walls, and that it would just be a huge inflatable thing with lights… but it was the sun shining through the luminariums less than semi-translucent panels  and reflecting on to the opaque silver pieces that made the place bright and colourful =D

so this room is grey/silver. but the ceiling pieces make the place feel fantastical and magic

outside, rain started, but everywhere was still illuminated

apologies to this family

maybe we were just on a space ship this whole time!

Also? My grand nephew chose to be born!

here’s my eldest niece, Chez’, her baby, Elias, and his cooing daddy, Sal’.

and Elias chillaxin’ with his grand aunt, ME!

and getting smoochies from great-granny:

Picture-taker (and recent auntie) Marie’s birthday picnic!

I made her birthday cake. and spelt happy birthday in silver balls on the top. but after carrying the butter-iced cake in a tub through hot-weather journey to the arbouretum… AND forgetting the candles!… well…

ahem… learnt my lesson… butter icing + sunshine = SMUSH and messed-up decorations…

hopefully you can watch the video here:

We’re all going on a summer holiday!

leave a comment »

… but just a day late….

YES, I had my suitcase all packed and then waited an extra day in England for the volcanic ash clouds to move on. I was very calm but family were fretting!

So, on 17th of March, a day late, we ran away to Southern Spain, in a Ryanair Plane.

swooooooooooooooon at the pretty greens and the spectacular clouds

shadow of the clouds against the water and reflection of the sun =)
are these the alps?
my DVD Monster chilling out and high cinco the DVD left for us at the villa.

Bythe pool and in the pool:

AZUL! (bluuuue). Icy cold!

Water Taxi- even better when she’s on his back and i’m on hers! Kyla and I are too weak to cary two people though, we just sink.

the golf course next door and our view

Posies!

Pond- the bridge

WheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeJust keep swimming, just keep swimming…

Fuengirola

Outside gym!

PURPLE HOUSES! made for me and kyla. and no one else.
me and my sis, Kyla, and then Michaela and Mick:

i went down there where the river met the sea!

Drunk Trees!

Our sand castle (no bucket or spades used!) with shell decoration and stone pathway. Dream on you sand sculpturers- one day you may rival me, kyla and michael.
This flower felt like leaves, was HUGE and was very smelly but nice smelly =)

ODD TREES ❤

Mr or Ms Birdy- who I love dearly. I fed birdy a tuk-style biscuit containing sesame seads. I watched her fly wayyyy beyond the beach, beyond the tees and roads to the houses, just to come back, to go forth and come back again for more =D

MARBELLA:

SALI DALI (is it too rude to write his name so informally?)

ANDDDD for my greek myth-loving self (WAY better than coronation street or eastenders!)

and each had a title plate like this:

Spain has fantastic tiles…

more pretty pungent flowers like leaves!

Next? GIBBY! (ahem. sorry. Gibraltar)

Can hardly see over the wheel and never had a driving lesson- can see why mick wouldnt trust me to get us there…

I went in this/up this castle! It belonged to a princess or queen charlotte. Wasn’t very big on the inside!

APE! There was a 500pound fine for feeding the apes but we just prayed that they couldnt eat the car!

Baby ape! We gave little ape a lift up the mountain- tourists and ourselves laughed so hard!

Up at the castle…

Ants outside the castle- very organised but could do better- maybe if we had painted a white line between them they’d have stopped bumping in to each other.

I love these two buildings and the scooters most people use to get around without having to wear bike leathers. Bike leathers in 39degree weather, can you imagine? No thanks!

Evacuees that haven’t moved much.

MORRISONS INSIDE BRITAIN INSIDE SPAIN! odd. that’s Gibby rock behind there.

I loved this sun dial with the zodiac on it XD

This is Mr Gibraltar Rock, as Kyla named him.

RONDA!:

We didn’t go in the bull ring, just took this picture for tourists sake =P we don’t like such things.

See the little blue and pink squares? these are fabric pictures of Mary and her babby- in the morning there was a festival type celebration going down the street and these fabric pictures hung from balconies and buildings anywhere in Ronda.

Lovely views =)

Cheeky sister! This is a museum. How pretty…

As tiiimmmeee goess byyy, so slowlyy… ahem. sorry.

i fight depression but i'm feeling better than this greek god.

part one

part two

swoooooooooon

FIESTA!

This is a Fiesta- Kyla and Micks Magnums cost 2 euro each, my fiesta was SO full of food colouring and flavourings and bad things that it only cost 50 cents =P But it was SO damn tasty and strong, almost bitter… like cherry and bubblegum.

Puente Nuevo

Postcard to home:
To mum, dad etc. & zoo, Today we have been to Ronda- we walked over this birdge! Ronda was a BIG drive away but it’s one of Spains oldest cities, has lots of museums and is situated in the mountains! A PROPPER CITY! HUGE! The Puente Nuevo was started in 1751 and completed in 1793 but the architect of didn’t survied it’s completion because he DIED falling out of a basket when looking over his work… The Puente nuevo is 96 metres tall! Which is 315 feet!!! And we picked oranges and nispero from trees- well, mostly Michael did… we couldnt reach…

The view:

On the bridge:

FIND THE HEART!

Water at the base of the bridge. Doesn;t that just look like the most beautiful thing in the world in this hot weather? It did back then too =) No diving though, it's 96m down.

Whhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

can’t quite reach! Mick did though. Hours later back at the villa we peeled the orange and found it was as bitter as a lemon or orange. It was also GIANT sized and the ppel was lovely, fragrant and yummy smelling. In the end we made orange rice pudding with loads of sugar, normal rice, milk, orange peel and juice… and out tongues tingled lots from the zing!

this was a museum! but you’re allowed to take pictures! so here they are (still in Ronda- we got around!):

I love these tiles

the view!

this man looks like a character! ❤

Bosco!

umm, this might be the end of Ronda!

Other things in Spain in wanted to bring back in my suitcase:
PURPLE TREEEEES! I saw many of gthem and you’d kind of think them bare to not be green and leafy but…

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*swooooon* I miss you purple trees! why do you never write to me?
and red trees!

beautiful!

where we almost always ate breakfast, tea and supper, looking out in to the garden

Villa:

living room, breakfast bar

dining room with a... PIANO!? hmm.

um... snake! i like snakes...

i especially liked this snake until he ate…

one of these fishies.

ms terry (tarapin) scared snakey away

ummmm, this might be the end of my holiday snaps (i say that but there are 600 plus of them) but i fear i might have bombarded you >.<

ta-ra!

I’m sorry blog so being gone so long!

leave a comment »

I just spent the past hour typing a blog entery (truthfully, it was mainly pictures) and then I realised I was logged on Pretty-Thrifty’s account! >.< So I’ll try that blog entery again, shall I? =P

On May the 15th I made my way to The Crocus Gallery Opening where I took part in a FREE silk painting taster workshop ran by a lovely lady, Danushka, and her daughter!

(picture taken from Crocus Gallery’s Blog!) Wearable and displayable art =) gorgeous things!

This is Magsy Malone’s Posey

with some border work by me and Danushka’s little girl.

and here’s my posey with swirls, with help from Danushka’s eldest daughter.

and what does Danushka create and sell? He’s just a taster:

….I give you permission to swoon….

Our finished scarves are on display at Crocus Gallery. Just a Bus ride away from Broadmarsh Bus Centre!

Who else did we meet on this eventful day other than Alyn, Morag and Sarah… we found… ANNA!

Anna’s a SUPER HUMAN… hero type woman.

And I want that camera.

Say “Hi!” to this flower, it was in Alice in Wonderland decades ago!

Check out my button and paper bling! I left my jewellery children with their uncle Alyn whilst I went on holiday and he managed to re-home FOUR of them!

At some point in my time at Crocus Gallery this day I did some singing. It was requested. I swear! I’m a good singer anyway.

Too soon came the end of the opening, and I was told to give back Anna’s dad’s camera… come homeee with meeee Canon…

Also in this day (before I had returned home to start packing my suitcase for my Spain holiday the day after)….

Sarah and I poked around in the light shop on Maid Marian Way and found a magical 90 pound mirror that makes our short forms appear taller!

90 pounds? I want it!

And, like an episode of Doctor Who, we returned to the market square to find we’d accidentally gone back in time!you’re not the only one surprised to find they had pizza hut in Robin Hood’s time.

OH! It’s the premiere of Robin Hood? Okay. Fair enough.

This dark, shining, bright, end of the day view made me not want to leave Nottingham! However….

Paper Rose! & Cut out + Keep.

leave a comment »

Look what I did!!!

Remember Mother’s Day?

Know those Mother’s Day cards… the ones that have a pretty piece of folded paper inside… on to which you write “To Mum” and “Love from _________” and then “oxoxo” around the printed on sentence that says something like “YOU ARE THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST”? Well, that’s what this rose is made of – that pretty paper =)

Want to make one but don’t know what you’ll need? Then I guess it’s good I can show you the link.

I haven’t any floral tape nor sheet music that I can cut up freely (my singing father would scream!) I do, however, have various jewellery wire! Also, in another version of this I printed off lyrics to my sister’s wedding song (in pink ink) and turned those pages in to a rose!! It would only take  a couple of A4 pages to make this.

I recommend you make a practice rose out of scrap paper and cellotape before moving on to making a rose made of pretty paper and hot glue. I made my first rose our of some fliers and adverts that often drop out of my mother’s Ladies Magazine.

This rose *below* was made by Scarlet (How To extraordinaire) and posted at Cut Out + Keep

Nice, eh? Indeed!

My sister, Kyla’s one year anniversary was on Sunday (9th May). She and her Husby, Michael, went to York and Harrogate where she treated him to war museums galore! And that’s why I made the rose =) along with a Lemony style Victoria Sponge cake! Victoria sponge except with lemon juice and zest and sandwiched together with lemony butter icing and lemon curd and drizzled with lemony syrup! …I thought it would be appropriate for spring time and quite traditional =]

One last picture of my rose… that I’m obviously VERY proud of =P

These pictures were taken using my Dad’s Mobile phone because I had lent Sarah my camera for the weekend for her trip to London… I missed my camera dearly… and Sarah too of course! Mais oui…
